ARM acquires Belgian company

Chip designer ARM Holdings acquired Adelante Technologies Belgium, a 25-person company in Leuven, Belgium, that specializes in optimizing performance and data throughput in processors. ARM designs energy-efficient chips that are used in cell phones, handhelds and networking equipment.

ARM, based in Cambridge, England, also stated that its earnings for the period ended June 30 came to 31.4 million pounds (about $50.17 million), marking a revenue decline of 27 percent from about $69 million in the second quarter of 2002. Earnings per share came to 0.4 pence, a decline from earnings per share of 1.1 pence in the same period the year before.
