Sony is looking to uncover the best photographers around the world as part of its National Award program.
Open to photographers of all skill levels, the Australian National Award is part of Sony's World Photography Awards held annually. There are ten categories you can enter: Architecture, Arts and Culture, Enhanced, Low light, Nature and Wildlife, Panoramic, People, Smile, Split second and Travel.
Photos will first be judged by the World Photography Awards preselection committee and then sent to a special judging panel. The competition is free to enter, although images need to have been shot in 2013 to be eligible for the award. Entries close on 6 January 2014.
Last year's winning image was taken by photography student Michael Farnell from Perth. His winning image "Reflections of Lake Louise" was taken in Banff, Canada.
"Most photos of the lake are the typical wide-angle postcard shot, so I tried a different approach by taking a close-up view of the lake and its surroundings," he said. "The reflections on the water were prominent all over, but the pine trees created a fascinating pattern, which is why I decided to take out my zoom lens and take this shot."
The winner will receive Sony camera equipment as their prize, while the winning photo will go on show at the World Photography Awards exhibition in London. Full terms and conditions, as well as the entry process, can be found on the World Photography Awards website.
