Archos reveals trio of Neon tablets
With specs that are at least one generation behind, the Neon series only muddies the Archos waters.
Archos this week quietly introduced a new family of Neon tablets. Ranging in size from 9 inches to 10.1 inches, the slabs are similar to the company's Carbon and Cobalt lines. Unfortunately, these new Neon tablets are on the lower end.
On the smaller end of the scale, we have the Archos 90 Neon, which features a 9-inch display, but at only a 800x480-pixel resolution, about the same resolution as your typical 4-inch Android smartphone.
Running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, it houses a 1.4GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage with microSD expansion. In terms of software, the 90 Neon is loaded with OfficeSuite Viewer and Archos' Media Center applications for an "enhanced" audio and video experience.
The Archos 97 Neon is not only slightly bigger, but it has a more reasonable 1,024x768-pixel resolution. Though it does offer a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the tablet is saddled with the same memory and storage options. And, while this is the only Neon tablet to feature a rear camera, it's a lowly 2-megapixel shooter.
The largest of the bunch, the Archos 101 Neon has a 10.1-inch display, but only a 1,024x600-pixel resolution. What's more, this one comes with the same hardware configuration as the other two models. One key difference, however, is that the 101 Neon offers HDMI output.
Given these specs we should look for relatively low prices for the Neon series; Archos has yet to list these tablets in its online store.
