Arbor Software is extending the reach of its data analysis tools.

The online analytical processing (OLAP) software maker today said it has purchased AppSource, a developer of an OLAP tools package called Wired for OLAP, used to analyze sales and marketing information. No financial terms were disclosed.

The Wired for OLAP package, combined with Arbor?s Essbase financial analysis tools, gives the company a full package of OLAP tools, said analysts. The company plans to integrate Wired for OLAP into Essbase 5.0, due to ship early next year.

About 60 percent of Arbor?s customers also use AppSource?s tools, according to the company.

Arbor plans to integrate products from the Orlando, Florida-based company into Essbase. Arbor will also merge all of AppSource?s employees into its product development, marketing, and sales organizations.

Arbor said its customer support and sales organizations are already familiar with Wired for OLAP. The company said it will also invest in additional training for technical support, application consultants, and sales personnel.

The Wired for OLAP package includes graphical display, navigation, and analytical tools. An evaluation copy of the package can be downloaded from Arbor?s Web site.

Arbor competes with a handful of OLAP server software providers, including Oracle. Earlier this year, Arbor inked a deal with IBM to jointly develop IBM?s DB2 OLAP Server, set to ship in the first half of next year.
