Apple's Boot Camp 3.2 update causing Windows 7 brightness issues

According to a growing thread on the Apple Support Discussions, the recent Boot Camp update (3.2) is causing users running Windows 7 brightness problems after installation. Users are reporting the issue across multiple Mac models including the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and a Mac Pro.

"I am running Windows 7 on a new 11.6 MacBook Air and I just upgraded my Bootcamp to 3.2. Clicking the brightness buttons (fn + F1) causes the little brightness icon to come up and move up or down, but the actual screen brightness won't change and stays at 100%. I don't remember this happening before I upgraded (but the computer is brand new)."

One forum user, ckahn, posted a short screencast showing how the brightness levels do not change, even though the onscreen indicator goes up and down. After a fresh install of Windows 7, ckahn reported that the issues still exist. A third installation briefly worked after changing the Windows 7 setting from x64 to x86, but failed a short time after installation.

Some users are finding that disabling some third-party add-ons may solve the problem. If you're experiencing the issue, try disabling or updating any extensions and plug-ins you have running on Windows or Mac.
