Apple on Wednesday showed off new models of the Apple Watch. The Sport model can now be had in either gold or rose gold in anodized aluminum. The new colors will be offered for the same price as the current silver and gray models in both 38mm and 42mm sizes. We had a chance to look at both hands-on, and the good news is that these new Sport models add some of the style of the expensive Edition models at a fraction of the price.
Trying both on, they clearly aim for a more subtle variation of color and style than bolder Sport designs already available. It's nice, for a change, that Apple is focusing on a wider range of affordable accessories. Considering that the Sport is the model most people own, it's a smart move.
WatchOS 2's new watch faces that we could see are a welcome addition, too: new complications add extra information, and scrolling back and forth in time with the Digital Crown worked well.
The stainless steel model Apple Watch is now available in a Space Black version that comes with a black sport band. There's also a special Product Red band for the stainless steel model, which Apple will donate a portion of the sales to fight AIDS.
The Cupertino, California-based company also announced a new model that is being developed with Hermes. The Apple Watch Hermes will come with a custom watch face and three leather band choices. The watch will be available in select stores in October, although no pricing was announced.
