The company says the software offers performance and reliability enhancements for functions such as email, Web page design, and system management. It is designed for use in small business or corporate departments and workgroups, according to Apple.
AppleShare IP 5.0.2, as the software is being called, includes support for file sharing using TCP/IP and AppleTalk. The software also includes File Transfer Protocol (FTP) capabilities, an email server, a Web page server, and an AppleTalk print server.
Apple says the software requires a Power Macintosh system with a PowerPC 601, 604, or 604e processor; Mac OS version 7.6 or later; and a minimum of 32MB of RAM.
A beta version of the software is available for download at Apple's Web site. A later beta version will include support for Mac OS 8.
