Apple Computer said Monday that it has started shipping a Power Mac G4 computer with dual 800MHz PowerPC G4 processors. The new computer includes the SuperDrive, a combination CD-rewritable/DVD-recordable drive. The new Power Mac G4 is "the fastest Mac we have ever shipped," Philip Schiller, Apple's vice president of worldwide marketing, said in a statement.
According to Apple, the new computer can do up to twice the work in the same amount of time by automatically balancing the workload between both processors simultaneously. Apple claims its new computer can run applications such as Adobe's Photoshop up to 83 percent faster than a PC with a 1.7GHz Intel Pentium 4. The new computer, which also features 256MB of SDRAM and a 80GB hard drive, costs $3,499.
