Apple scoops Apple with iPhone 7 news on Twitter

Moments before Apple is expected to unveil its latest smartphone, the company appears to have leaked a photo and specs on social media.

Apple tweets this photo on Twitter and then abruptly takes it down.

Apple's unveiling of the iPhone 7 didn't happen at its big event Wednesday in San Francisco. Instead, it happened on Twitter.

The tech giant tweeted a photo of a black smartphone along with the words, "New cameras. Water resistant. Stereo speakers. Longer battery life. This is 7." The tweet was then promptly taken down and Apple's entire Twitter account was temporarily shuttered.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on Wednesday with an enhanced camera, more storage capacity and improved water resistance. The biggest change Apple has been rumored to make to the smartphones is the removal of the headphone jack, prompting people to use wireless earbuds. But that addition did not make the Twitter headline, for what it's worth.
