Apple releases new iMac

Apple Computer has officially added a $799 iMac to its retail lineup. As previously reported, the new iMac contains 64MB of memory and has a CD-ROM drive instead of the CD-rewritable drive that comes standard on all other iMacs. Although new on store shelves, the $799 model has been available for the education market since the iMac line was last updated in July. Retailers said last week they are hopeful the new model might pull a few more computer buyers toward the Mac but added they do not expect demand for the indigo-colored machine to be that strong.
