Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road riders have a new way to buy tickets.
Starting Wednesday, customers will be able to use Apple Pay or Masterpass on the MTA's eTix app, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday. The app allows riders to buy one-way, round-trip and ten-trip tickets, as well as weekly, monthly and CityTickets passes.
"We have worked tirelessly to rebuild and reimagine New York's transit system for the 21st century and a key part of those efforts is to incorporate the amenities that modern day riders demand," Cuomo said in a press release. "By adding the use of cutting-edge technology like Apple Pay and Masterpass, we are not only making mass transit easier to use, but are also improving the overall experience of riders."
To use Apple Pay in the MTA eTix app, select the ticket you would like to purchase, choose the "Pay with Apple Pay" option, and confirm the purchase by tapping the fingerprint sensor.
