Hold on to your Mighty Mouse. In news that's sure to send a shudder through many a Windows fanboy, Apple has announced that Mac OS X Leopard will go on sale on Friday 26 October at 1pm (GMT).
The new OS is the sixth major release of OS X, and according to Apple frontman Steve Jobs, it's also the best. New features include the Time Machine file-recovery application, a redesigned 3D Dock, and Spaces, which lets you drag specific file types and their related apps into unique 'desktops'.
In all, Leopard sports more than 300 new features, all of which are available in an £85 upgrade, or a £129 five-licence 'family pack'. Jobs, understandably, jibed that "everyone gets the Ultimate version", in reference to Microsoft's policy of releasing different flavours of Vista for different market segments.
