A couple of weeks ago when Apple began ramping up its releases of beta builds of OS X 10.7.2, I made a premature guess that this indicated the final public release of the update was very near at hand. Two weeks later Apple is still issuing new developer builds of the update, suggesting it is working hard at refining the build and ensuring that the new features in it--namely those relating to iCloud--are as bug-free as possible. In addition to new features, the build should address a number of issues that have cropped up involving the initial OS X Lion releases.

This latest build (11C57) from Apple is apparently without known issues, and has been released only days after the previous build, which hopefully means that OS X 10.7.2 will be released to the public soon. The update has focused on the applications and services that interface with iCloud (iCal, Address Book, App Store, Mail) as well as a number of other features such as Time Machine, Spotlight, Safari, and iChat. In addition, a big focus of the 10.7.2 update has been improvements to graphics drivers, which hopefully should address a few notable anomalies that users have experienced. These include black screens and performance problems, in addition to fuzzy or garbled textures onscreen.

Let's hope that no problems will crop up in the testing of this latest beta release, allowing it to be issued to the public sooner rather than later. From the downloads that have been available to developers, it appears this update will be approximately 750MB to 800MB in size, depending on whether you use the Delta updater or the Combo updater. If you update your system thorough Software Update, the download will likely be yet another size as it will be more tailored for your system.
