A biweekly San Francisco-based online magazine called Salon has been launched on the Web. The magazine is being funded by Apple Computer, Adobe, and Borders Books & Music. Salon is currently free, but the publication is looking into subscription packages, according to company officials.

Salon includes articles and editorials on books, politics, art, and current events. The first issue features an interview with novelist Amy Tan and a story about Bosnia.

A Salon spokesperson says there are plans to publish on a weekly basis once the site takes off.
