Apple Drops QuickTime Royalty Fees

To further encourage developers to use the technology, Apple is making it possible to license the QuickTime VR Player for distribution on CD-ROM.

Online developers working with Apple's QuickTime technology will no longer need to pay royalties for distributing applications that use the movie-making software. The newly waived royalties apply to QuickTime VR, QuickTime VR Player, and panoramic or object movies developed with QuickTime VR.

Developers will now pay only the $495 price for the QuickTime VR Authoring Tools suite. A license agreement is still required before QuickTime VR run-time software as a player or object within an application can be distributed.
