Apple Computer has pulled the plug on KidSafe, a free Internet tool that made sure that each Web site a child wanted to visit was already part of its database of approved destinations. Apple introduced KidSafe in January 2000 as part of its iTools service.
"We regret that we are discontinuing the KidSafe service due to low customer usage," Apple said on its Web site. The computer maker also provided a way to remove the KidSafe extension from a Mac and refers those interested in a filtering service to other companies. An Apple representative did not immediately return a request for comment.
