Apple Assistant gets mocked up in concept video

Speech recognition could be coming in the next iPhone

The hype is going into overdrive. Not to be outdone by those making their own iPhone, a rumour site has produced its own concept video of how Apple's Assistant feature might work.

MacRumors contacted artist Jan-Michael Cart to create the video of Apple's rumoured speech-to-text feature. It's a decidedly Apple affair as well, complete with the white background and twee music.

Apple's Assistant speech-to-text technology is one of the heavily-rumoured features of the new iPhone that's expected to be unveiled on Tuesday. (The invite for the event reads: "Let's talk iPhone," hinting the feature will play a big part.) Up above you can see a mock up of how it'll look.

In the video, holding down the Home button brings up the Assistant user interface. The icons on-screen fade to grey, and a microphone appears with a purple light flashing around it -- this is apparently based on sources who have knowledge of the feature and how it works. A voice reads out a message he wants to text to a colleague, and that appears on screen. The voice selects the mobile number by saying "Mobile," and it sends.

The voice also finds information online about the International Space Station.

It'll be interesting to see how accurate this vid turns out to be -- the production is very Apple-esque, and the feature is certainly foolproof enough to be in-keeping with Apple's philosophy.

Tomorrow all will be revealed, as Apple unveils a new iPhone or two, crammed full of iOS5 features, as well as refreshing its iPod range in time for Christmas. It all kicks off from 6pm, so join us for all the announcements as they happen.
