Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.
The Google Goggles hype kind of came and went back in 2010, when it was released for iOS, dying down amid disappointed sighs that the goggles couldn't recognise much yet. If you never grabbed the free app at the time, it's improved a fair bit, and it's kind of fun to take random photos to see what the app recognises. It mostly seems to be logos and text, but then you can perform a Google search and find out more about what you're seeing — I imagine it would be very useful overseas, for example, where many things might be unfamiliar. Anyway, it's free, so download it and give it a shot.
