AOL continues to play catch-up with the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu with plans to launch yet another original show.
Set to start filming in New York City this month, "Park Bench" is AOL's take on an unscripted celebrity reality show but with a Big Apple twist. The series will feature actor Steve Buscemi as he takes viewers on a tour of his daily life, bumping into people and places along the streets of New York. Calling the show a "first-hand misadventure," AOL said that Buscemi will discuss everything from pop culture to current events with his fellow New Yorkers.
"We're excited to include Park Bench as part of our new slate of AOL Originals," Gabriel Lewis, head of AOL Studios & AOL Originals, said in a statement. "We strive to produce and showcase programming that captures unique and authentic personalities, and this series will give audiences a glimpse into Steve's world like they've never experienced before."
Produced by Olive Productions and RadicalMedia, the first season of "Park Bench" will air online in the United States. RadicalMedia is also teaming up with distributor FremantleMedia to try to bring the series to the global TV market.
"Park Bench" joins a growing stable of other AOL Originals. Last year, the online company launched aas Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow. On Tuesday, AOL , also set in New York.
Buscemi will have to fit the show in between his performances in HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," a role that has earned him a Golden Globe award.
"Having lived and worked in New York my whole life, I'm ready to take advantage of all it has to offer," Buscemi said in a statement. "I just need to lay down for five minutes."
