AOL says membership passes 32 million

America Online said Monday that membership for its Internet service surpassed 32 million paid subscribers. It took less than three months for the online division of media giant AOL Time Warner to gain 1 million new members. AOL executives attributed the membership jump to the release of AOL 7.0, its latest software upgrade. The service has been downloaded 7 million times since its release Oct. 16, the company said. The majority of these downloads were from existing members upgrading their service.
