AOL climbs to 5 million members

America Online announced that it has passed the 5-million-member mark and processes 28 million hits on the Web each day.

The company also reported that its revenues for the second quarter tripled from last year to $249 million. Last year, the company reported a loss of about $39 million.

AOL recently launched its service in Germany and the United Kingdom, but subscriber figures and financial results of the European operation were not included in the report.
