AOL adds 1.4 million Europe subscribers

America Online, a subsidiary of AOL Time Warner, said that it has acquired 1.4 million subscribers in Europe for the year 2001 thus far, bringing its total membership to 4.6 million in Europe. In January, AOL's worldwide membership excluding the United States had surpassed the 5 million mark, which was a result of the growth in its AOL-branded services, including the launch of two sites in Latin America, the company said. The growth was also propelled by AOL Europe's flat-rate plans. In September, AOL U.K. launched its flat-rate pricing plan that provides members with unmetered access for a monthly fee of 14.99 pounds.
