After months of bullying and harassment about her successful Kickstarter campaign, Anita Sarkeesian has launched the first video in her funded web series.
In May last year, feminist commentator Anita Sarkeesian launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new set of videos in her Tropes vs. Women in Video Games series. It was a move that angered netizens around the world, resulting in a .
There were even claims that Sarkeesian — who made nearly US$160,000 from a US$6000 funding goal — had taken the money and run off after the series was delayed. However, as Sarkeesian explained to backers, she was merely taking extra time after receiving far more funding than expected.
Now the first video has arrived, in spite of the overwhelming backlash. It covers a very familiar trope: the damsel in distress, from Wonder Boy to Batman to The Legend of Zelda.
