Angry mob hurls eggs at Apple's tardy Beijing store

A Chinese Apple store didn't open on time to let buyers pick up the iPhone 4S on its launch day... so customers egged it.

Don't mess with an angry mob of people waiting in line for a shiny new Apple product--especially if they've got produce on hand.

That was the lesson Apple's retail store in Beijing learned the hard way.

Bloomberg reports that those who had lined up for the iPhone 4S on its launch day in the country became incensed when the store did not open up for sales at the previously announced time.

According to the story, the 500 some person group began "pelting" the store with eggs, later transferring their rage to an unidentifiable "man with a bullhorn" who had told the group the phone wasn't yet available.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reported altercation.

Things went a little smoother in Shanghai, where the company's flagship store opened up an hour earlier than Apple had originally announced, Bloomberg said.

Apple announced plans tobring the iPhone 4S to China and 21 other countries earlier this month. The phone, which is expected to be Apple's fastest-selling iPhone yet, launched in the U.S. and a number of other countries in mid-October of last year.

This is the second product launch incident to take place at that particular Apple retail location. A fight broke out there on the day the iPad 2 launched that resulted in four people being injured and hospitalized, along with a glass door that was smashed by the crowd.
