A new Android tablet is heading for Blighty, but it's not made by one of those high-falutin', hoity-toity tech companies -- the Andy Pad is made by cheap-mattress vendor Mattressman.
Here's some news that might make you want to have a little lie down. A new Android tablet is heading for Blighty, but it's not made by one of those high-falutin', hoity-toity technology companies -- the Andy Pad is made by cheap-mattress vendor Mattressman.
The full specification for the device isn't yet available, but it's expected to have a 7-inch touchscreen and run Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, rather than the tablet-optimised Android Honeycomb.
Mattressman's business-development director, George Eastmead, told Know Your Mobile that the Andy Pad will pack a "competitive processor", offer a 1080p HDMI output and "be able to run the latest 3D games".
He also suggested the Andy Pad would be cheaper than the Advent Vega was at launch -- £250 -- when it's released in September. The Vega runs Android 2.2 Froyo and uses a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, which suggests we'll see a similar chip in the Andy Pad.
The teaser picture on the Andy Pad website also indicates the tablet will have a thin, white bezel.
Eastmead reckons the Andy Pad "is going to be the tablet for the guy who wants an iPad, but can't afford it". Well, let's just hope it's better than Next's Android tablet.
