Advanced Micro Devices announced Monday that it promoted William "Billy" Edwards to chief strategy officer and hired Iain Morris to replace Edwards as group vice president of its personal connectivity solutions group, which makes chips for handhelds and cell phones. Morris comes from Hewlett-Packard, where he served as senior vice president for the mobility and emerging technology group. Before that, he worked at Motolola for 23 years.
Other Motorola executives have joined AMD over the years. CEO Hector Ruiz ran Motorola's semiconductor division before joining AMD in January 2000. Chief Financial Robert Rivet came from Motorola in September 2000.
