Amazon still hunting for top executives

Key officers from Priceline and Ingram Micro may fit the bill, according to speculation.

It's been two months since Amazon.com announced it was looking for executives to fill two top positions, yet the hunt continues.

Amazon spokesman Paul Capelli declined to say when the company would hire a new chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Amazon is "in the process of identifying good candidates," he said.

Amazon shouldn't have much trouble attracting top candidates to fill the positions, said Lauren Cooks Levitan, a financial analyst at BancBoston Robertson Stephens. The company can afford to wait to find the best candidates, she added. Chief strategy officer Joy Covey continues to temporarily fill in as CFO.

Amazon announced in a conference call with investors in April that then-CFO Covey was moving over to become the company's chief strategy officer. At the same time, the company created the COO position.

The Wall Street Journal speculated in an article yesterday that Amazon might be looking at Jeffrey Rodek, president of Ingram Micro, for the COO position and Priceline CFO Paul Francis for the same position at Amazon. Capelli said he couldn't confirm whether the company had spoken to Rodek or Francis.
