Allegiance bonds with Verizon

Allegiance Telecom's network computer systems are now integrated with Verizon Communications' network, making it easier for Allegiance to offer local phone services and compete with established carriers, Allegiance said Wednesday. The links, called electronic bonding, enable computers at the two phone companies to instantly communicate with each other and share customer information, service requests and other data. The connection makes it easier for potential business customers to switch over to Allegiance phone service. Allegiance has bonded with incumbent carriers in all of its 36 markets through similar agreements with SBC Communications, BellSouth and Qwest Communications International. The relationships are part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which requires incumbent Baby Bell phone companies to share their networks with start-up carriers, a process that has caused tension between the two parties.
