Agilent buys Silicon Valley Networking Lab

Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: A) said Monday it has acquired the Silicon Valley Networking Lab, Inc., a networking-industry test lab. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shares in Agilent, a company created by Hewlett-Packard's realignment, were up 1 1/16 to 77 5/16.

The Silicon Valley Networking Lab (SVNL) offers services targeted at networking-equipment makers to test performance, benchmarking, interoperability, and conformance.

With the addition of SVNL, Agilent plans to build an independent test and analysis center that will offer an increased range of services to customers in the networking and communications industry. Agilent, which designs and manufactures measurement instruments, serves the communications, electronics and healthcare markets.

SVNL has built a client base of more than 50 key networking OEMs by addressing an unfilled need for outsourced test services, the company said. SVNL was recently chosen by Lockheed Martin Corp. as the test lab for evaluating advanced Internet Protocol (IP) multicast applications over a 600-node gigabit Ethernet network powered by routers from Cisco Systems, Inc.
