Actor's nonprofit creating illness site

Paul Newman's nonprofit foundation, Newman's Own, said Thursday it plans to create and maintain a Web site for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The site will address the informational and emotional needs of children, parents, siblings and caretakers at various stages of serious illnesses. The newest twist to Newman's longstanding charity effort--whose motto is "Shameless Exploitation in the Pursuit of the Common Good"--comes as relief organizations around the world are tapping the Web for fund raising and consciousness raising. In the weeks after a January earthquake in India, the American Red Cross gathered $1.5 million through its Web site. CARE, Amnesty International, and other relief groups have recorded big increases in online donations.
