ACT frames new software

ACT Networks introduces a new network management software package for its frame relay access products.

CNET News staff
ACT Networks (ANET) today announced a new Simple Network Management Protocol-based network management software package for its frame relay access products.

ACTview-2000 is a management suite that lets an administrator configure, manage, and monitor ACT's SDM frame relay product line and, using the protocol, offers greater interoperability with existing management applications on a wide area network.

The management suite, which runs on Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95, has a graphical user interface similar to Hewlett-Packard's OpenView.

ACT switches and hubs are currently managed by ActView via a proprietary interface. Customers will receive an updated SNMP agent. ACT's frame relay routers already contain a built-in SNMP agent.

ACTview-2000 Network Management System software has prices starting at $1,000. The agent starts at $1,500. Both products will ship by the end of the year.
