Acer announces Liquid E3 and Z4 budget Android smarties
Acer has lifted the lid on two new smarties ahead of Mobile World Congress next week. And they're both very affordable.
Mobile World Congress hasn't even started yet, but Acer has jumped the gun and announced two budget smarties. The Acer Liquid E3 and Liquid Z4 will be on show at the mobile industry trade show next week, and both are wallet-friendly Android smarties.
The E3 is the higher-specced of the two. It has a 4.7-inch, 720p HD screen, a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB internal storage. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but Acer has confirmed it will get the update to KitKat later this year. Sounds promising.
On the back is a 13-megapixel snapper with auto-focus, plus there's a 2-megapixel front-facer. It's pretty slim too, measuring up at 8.9mm thick. Look out for it in April, when it'll hit shop shelves for €199 (£164).
The Liquid Z4, meanwhile, is a stripped-down model that costs even less. It has a 4-inch screen, a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, along with 4GB of internal storage. On the back is a 5-megapixel camera, though there's no front-facer. So bad luck if you want to use it for video calls.
At 9.7mm fat, it's a smidge thicker than the E3. It has Wi-Fi and GPS, but like the E3, there's no 4G for superfast browsing and downloading. It'll be on sale in April as well, for €99 (£82). It'll come in white or black colour options.

Both handsets look like they're taking aim at the Motorola Moto G, which is the best budget smartie around right now. Motorola proved you can make a cracking phone that doesn't cost the earth, and it's been a runaway success, garnering rave reviews across the board. I predict we'll see plenty of competition at Mobile World Congress next week though.
