Xbox Summer Showcase Live Blog: Everything Microsoft Announced at SGF

Dragon Age, Fable, Metal Gear Solid and Gears of War were just some of the huge names at Summer Game Fest. And new hardware, too.

The Xbox Summer Showcase is Microsoft's big presentation during Summer Game Fest, giving us an early look at the publisher and tech giant's games coming to Xbox One X and S, PC and increasingly, PS5 and Switch.

In past years, Microsoft has used the Xbox Summer Showcase to tease upcoming games from its first-party lineup and bolster the value of its Game Pass subscription service. But given Microsoft's move in February to bring four games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch along with rumors that more would come to other platforms, we wouldn't be surprised if there were official announcements about former Xbox-only franchises moving elsewhere.

As we're in the middle of a hardware generation, we didn't expect to see any news about consoles or teases about what's coming after the Xbox One X and S. But we heard rumors about other hardware getting introduced at the Summer Showcase, and we were shown a few new storage options for the two consoles.

Mostly what we expected was games. After the launch of Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga last month, there weren't too many games we expect to see teased from a Microsoft-owned studio to come out this year. But there were trailers for games due out in 2025 and later. Read on to see what was announced, or watch the video above.

And that's a wrap for the trailer showcase

By David Lumb

Whew! With Gears of War, that makes Microsoft's Xbox Showcase a staggering 30 trailers in a bit over an hour. Some sequels, some DLC and expansions, but plenty of new IPs and exciting first looks at brand-new games. From hotly anticipated games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard to returns of old favorites like Fable and Perfect Dark to games coming later in 2024 like Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater and Indiana Jones: The Great Circle, gamers will feast this year... especially if they have Game Pass, which many games are coming to. Happy playing!

One more thing... Gears of War is back

By David Lumb

Marcus is back! Gears of War: E-Day is officially revealed. Here at the Geffen Theater, the crowd went as wild as it's been all day.

The black Xbox Series X has a disc drive and a speckled paint job with a 2TB SSD for an eye-watering $600, per Xbox's blog post

'Too many games!'

The crowd has been hyped, and cries of "Let's go Xbox!" can be heard in the Geffen Theater. We're almost at the end of the showcase and someone said, "Too many games!" to which others playfully shouted him down.

Atomfall

By David Lumb

Judging by the trailer, Atomfall looks fun -- exploring a mountain town with a bow and revolver, but what's the mystery at its heart?

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

A new fantasy action game with demonic vibes, the previously announced Wuchang: Fallen Feathers gets a story trailer.

By David Lumb

Who doesn't love a good mech game? Here's Mecha Break, a multiplayer mech game that's coming in 2025, but will get a beta this August.

Also let's pretend my fingers flew faster than was possible and I managed to link these in real-time -- Avowed, the new first-person fantasy by Obsidian Entertainment, got a story trailer (it's coming in 2024). And Age of Mythology Retold, a remaster of the original myth-infused strategy game, got a reveal trailer -- that's coming in 2024 and will be on Game Pass on day one.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

By David Lumb

More story and gameplay from MachineGames' upcoming game starring everyone's favorite professor-adventurer, which still has a vague 2024 release window, but will come to Game Pass on Day 1.

Life is Strange: The Great Circle

By David Lumb

A new Life Is Strange... and the protagonist of the original, Max Caulfield, is back as well! In this one, an older Max loses a friend... but only in one universe. She must jump between both to save her and to unravel the mystery of a murder. Life Is Strange: Double Exposure comes out Oct. 29, 2024.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

By David Lumb

The crowd in the Geffen Theater gasped when they saw the beautiful landscapes shown in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which looks to include balloons and distance photography in addition to traditional flight simulation. The game comes out on Nov. 19, 2024 -- and again will be on Game Pass on Day 1.

Winter Burrow and Mixtape

By David Lumb

Want a coming-of-age story with Into The Spiderverse-style choppy animation and '80s music/vibes? Mixtape is coming next year. Want a cute mouse game? Winter Burrow has you covered, coming early 2025. Another fascinating pair at the showcase.

Fragpunk, Flintlock and more

By David Lumb

The trailers keep coming with new interesting releases for both Fragpunk (coming 2025) and Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn coming much sooner on July 18, 2024. Both look very interesting in visual style and as new IPs, really show how varied this Microsoft trailer showcase is, with sequels, MMO expansions and DLC, as well as completely new games.

Fable returns!

By David Lumb

Another vibes trailer, but this time for the fan-favorite Fable series -- which is rebooting the naming by calling the new game, well, Fable. It's coming in 2025 and will be on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Perfect Dark... an immersive sim??

By David Lumb

Perfect Dark returns! This time... in an immersive sim? Very Arkane-style investigation and combat from our favorite N64 agent Joanna Dark. While we don't have a release date, it's coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day 1.

World of Warcraft expansion, Diablo 4 DLC

By David Lumb

The trailers are streaming in, and now that Blizzard is officially part of the Microsoft family, World of Warcraft: The War Within got shown onstage -- that's coming Aug. 26, 2024.

We also got our first look at Diablo 4's upcoming DLC, Vessel of Hatred, which is coming Oct. 8, 2024, with a new class, a new area and more. The trailer for the expansion is suitably gross, with a poor woman tortured by a demon -- possibly the eponymous Diablo himself -- as she holds a soulstone.

Microsoft kicked off its Xbox Showcase with the reveal of Call fo Duty Black Ops 6. Like previous games in the historical series, Black Ops 6 trailer opened up with footage from historical presidents like Reagan, Bush Sr. and Clinton -- the period the game and its wet-work action takes place, presumably. In a recorded preview, Phil Spencer announced the game is coming to Xbox, PC and for the first time, Game Pass on Day 1.
