How to watch 'American Gods' on Starz
Do you really need a cable subscription to watch this hot new show?
The buzziest TV show in town right now isn't Hulu 's "The Handmaid's Tale" or HBO 's new season of "Silicon Valley" -- it's "American Gods," the series based on Neil Gaiman's eponymous, beloved book. Although the premiere isn't until this Sunday, April 30, reviewers -- including CNET's Richard Trenholm -- are already positively gushing.
Just one problem: it's on Starz. And how the heck do you watch Starz?
Although the cable channel previously offered content on Netflix and currently slings a couple shows via Hulu (most notably the awesome "Party Down"), currently the only way to get Starz is to subscribe to Starz.
Fortunately, that doesn't necessarily mean adding it to your already pricey cable or satellite subscription -- assuming you even still have one. Don't we all get our TV a-la-carte these days?
Like HBO and Showtime, Starz now offers a standalone subscription option, no other service required. After a seven-day trial, it'll run you $8.99 per month.
Once you've subscribed, you can watch "American Gods" on screens large and small: Starz has mobile apps for Android and iOS and couch apps for Amazon Fire TV and Roku. You'll also get a rotating selection of movies, same as with HBO and Showtime.
Don't want to subscribe? You can purchase individual episodes from services like Amazon , Google Play and Vudu. (Even though "American Gods" hasn't landed in those stores yet, Starz series like "Ash Vs. Evil Dead" and "Outlander" are there, so it stands to reason the new show will be as well.)
