How to turn off specific alerts for Facebook iOS app

The Facebook iOS app allows users to specify which push alerts are sent to their iOS device--that is, if the user knows where to look.

Receiving a barrage of push alerts from the Facebook iOS app can get to be annoying.

Facebook has placed the option to turn alerts off by category in the Settings section on your iOS device. Most apps currently place all settings and options inside the app, instead of in Settings, where the options are all but hidden if you don't know they are there.

Here's how to turn off alerts:

  1. Open Settings on your iOS device, scroll down until you find Facebook. Tap on it.

  3. Here you will find the real settings for the Facebook app. You can turn off sounds and vibration for messages, as well as turn on HD video recording for the app. Select Push Notifications to adjust your alert settings.

  5. As you can see on this screen, you now have control over of all of the different type alerts one may receive via the Facebook app. To turn off an alert category, toggle the switch to off. Should you change your mind down the road, revisit this screen and toggle the switch back to on.

Why this (or any of the other settings, for that matter) setting is hidden in Settings is not clear. Placing important settings such as this outside of the main app doesn't provide the best user experience. Nonetheless, you are now aware of where you can find the real settings for the Facebook app.
