Watch this: MacBook gets Touch ID fingerprint scanner

One of the biggest benefits of having Touch ID on any Apple device isn't quickly unlocking your phone or computer. It's Apple Pay .

With Apple Pay set up on a MacBook Pro , you can quickly complete a transaction on one of the many websites that have added support for Apple's payment service. If you're looking for a good place to start, try Apple's own website, should you need to buy any dongles for your USB-C only MacBook Pro.

Enable Apple Pay on your Mac

During initial setup, you're asked to add your fingerprint to Touch ID. Once that's done, you're asked to enable Apple Pay. If you already use Apple Pay on your iPhone or iPad , enter the security code on the back of your card and continue with setup.

If not, you can either scan a card at that time, or launch System Preferences and click on Wallet & Apple Pay after your MacBook Pro is up and running.

Follow the prompts to add a credit card or two. You will want to make sure your shipping info and email address are entered correctly by clicking on the Contact and Shipping button below the list of your added cards. Ensuring this info is correct will speed up the checkout process down the road.

Finally, close preferences.

Go shopping!

With Apple Pay set up on your MacBook Pro, you're ready to buy all the things. OK, well, maybe not all the things. But some things, no doubt.

Apple Pay transactions are only available in Safari, not Chrome or Firefox. Making a purchase requires you to visit an online store that supports Apple Pay such as Nike, Target, and Kickstarter.

If you see the Apple Pay logo during checkout, you know the site supports it. Actually, that's exactly what you're looking for when making an online purchase; click on that button to check out with Apple Pay. A dialogue will show up, letting you choose your payment source, shipping info and email address.

The Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro will display text, complete with the total and an arrow pointing to the Touch ID sensor for you to place your finger on.

A split-second later, your order is complete. Far too easy.

If you have an older MacBook, you too can use Apple Pay. Here's how.
