How to prevent Facebook's 'On This Day' feature from ruining your day

You now have more control over what shows up in those sometimes nice, but sometimes brutal reminders of your past.

Internet

Earlier this week, TechCrunch pointed out an important update Facebook made to its On This Day reminder feature. For the unfamiliar, every day Facebook will show you pictures and status updates you posted on that day's date in prior years.

There are times when the reminder of what you were doing one, two, or three years ago to the day can be fun, if not heartwarming.

Then there are the posts you'd soon rather forget that Facebook seemed to always cold-heartedly throw in your face.

Breakup with someone? Anniversary of the death of a love one? Post about it on Facebook? Odds are, you're going to be reminded about it each year as it passes.

That is, unless you visit this page using a computer (the preferences aren't available in the mobile app). Alternatively, you can also click on the "On This Day" listing on the left-side under the Apps section of your Facebook News Feed.

Clicking on the Preferences button on that page will bring up two different criteria you can use to block those bad memories: by person or by date.

Any names you enter will be removed from the reminders, as long as that person is tagged in the update or photo. Adding a date blocks out the reminders for that day of the year.
