There are so many social networks and Web services out there that it can be hard to keep track of where your pictures, files, and other goodies are kept. SocialFolders is a free service that helps you keep track of them all in one place, though for now it mostly just covers the big ones like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr. Still, it can be really handy to back up and synchronize files, so here's how to do it:
- Download and install SocialFolders.
- Register your free SocialFolders account.
- Connect to the Web services you use. SocialFolders makes it simple, but each service uses its own interface to connect.
- Each time you connect, you are given the choice to start transferring files to your SocialFolders location. You start with a limit of 2,000 files, but can add more through paying for a premium account or referring new users. Once your files are synced, you should get a notification from SocialFolders.
- Click the blue icon in the system tray to open your SocialFolders location. You should see one folder for each Web service you are connecting to SocialFolders. If all you want to do is back up your media, you're done.
- If you want to transfer files between services (or from your computer to one or more services), it's almost comically easy: Just cut and paste files into their folders within the SocialFolders location.
That's all there is to it! Perhaps wisely, SocialFolders does not yet allow deleting files remotely. It also seems to embrace feedback about adding new Web services, so let it know if your favorites are missing.
