If you are among the masses who have experienced a sense of loss after Gmail introduced its, you can return to the old way of composing e-mails if you use Chrome. With the Old Compose extension, you can do away with the small pop-out window and bring back Gmail's old compose window.
You won't find the Old Compose extension in the Chrome Web Store. Instead, you'll need to head to the Old Compose Web site, download it, and then drag the file into Chrome's extension page to install it. Last step: restart Chrome and you'll be rid of Gmail's new compose window.
There is one other step in the process I should mention: you will need to provide an e-mail address and then pay with a Tweet or a Facebook post in order to get the otherwise free download. This may annoy you or force you to create a fake Facebook or Twitter account, but the developer asks for help in spreading the word in lieu of any monetary reward.
I have found the extension to be stable, and it plays nice with other Gmail extensions. It works with, for example. And it doesn't mess with Gmail's new inbox tabs, which is nice. I did find that Old Compose added some extra padding or spacing to my inbox, making it so that I could see fewer lines of e-mails in my inbox with it enabled. Still, this extension will be welcome news for many Chrome users.
