Facebook is currently rolling out its latest visual overhaul: the new Facebook Timeline. Now's a good time to review your Facebook settings, so we're doing a series of tips to help you get your virtual house in order so that there will be no privacy surprises when the changes reach you.

The new Facebook Timeline makes every post on your main page appear with much greater prominence, so you might want to crack down on exactly who is allowed to put messages up there for all of your friends to see.

In your Privacy Settings, go to "How You Connect", and you'll find a bunch of settings for who can find you and how on Facebook.

The two key settings for your Timeline are: "Who can post on your Timeline" and "Who can see posts on your Timeline by others". The first lets you lock out posts by others if you want to, but that may seem a bit heavy handed to some. The second allows your friends to still post to your Timeline, but you can adjust it so that only you can see all the messages they leave.
