Starting today, consumers can go to T-Mobile's Web site and get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

T-Mobile is offering the tablet computer for $399.99 with a two-year contract, and $599.99 for those who don't want to get locked into a contract with the carrier. Customers who choose the two-year contract can opt for a 5GB data plan for $39.99 a month or a 200MB option for $24.99 per month.

T-Mobile has a one-day head-start with the Galaxy Tab. Tomorrow, Verizon will start selling the Galaxy Tab, likewise for $599.99 without a contract. Sprint will offer the device on November 14 for $399.99 with a two-year contract. It will also sell a 2GB data plan for $29.99 per month and a 5GB option for $59.99 a month.

Samsung's tablet features a 7-inch display, a front-facing camera that will give users the ability to do video chats, and 16GB of onboard memory. It runs Android 2.2.

The company has high hopes for the Galaxy Tab. Speaking at a press conference in early September announcing the device, Samsung Mobile's head of product planning, W.P. Wong, said the device isn't trumped by Apple's iPad in any way.

"Honestly, I don't see anything [about the Galaxy Tab] that is weaker than the iPad," Wong said.

Samsung Mobile President J.K. Shin has expressed similarly high expectations for the device. "[The] Galaxy Tab will change our lives," he said. "It is a true paradigm-shifter."
