Although Apple is typically loath to share sales figures until it announces quarterly earnings, a new report has cropped up, suggesting the iPhone maker had a huge day on Black Friday.

Citing a source, 9to5Mac today is reporting that it has obtained a screenshot of Apple's retail inventory system that shows record Black Friday sales. Although the blog didn't divulge exact sales for the day, it did say that, according to its source, Apple had expected sales to be more than four-times greater than on a typical Friday. The company was able to beat that forecast "by 7 p.m." across the U.S., according to the source.

Apple offered a host of Black Friday deals this year, including $101 off Macs, $41 off the iPad 2, and $21 off the iPod Touch. The company also had assorted discounts available on the many accessories it sells.

According to 9to5Mac's source, sales across Apple's product line were strong, but the company's MacBook Air was an especially hot item on Friday.

Apple wasn't the only company to see strong sales on Black Friday. Last night, research firm ComScore announced that U.S. consumers spent $816 million online, jumping 26 percent compared to Black Friday 2010. In addition, Amazon announced today that sales of its Kindle family on Black Friday quadrupled those the company generated on the same day last year.
