SmartThings device maker joins forces with Lowe's Iris

At CES, CentraLite announces a partnership with Lowe's Iris.

LAS VEGAS -- CentraLite may not be a household name yet, but this third-party manufacturer of SmartThings , PEQ , Ubisys and other home automation brands, has just locked down a partnership with Lowe's Iris and introduced a couple of new connected devices.

One of the new products, the Smart LED Switch pictured above (which is expected to retail for less than $40), is supposed to fit over your current light switch. Its ZigBee protocol ensures that you can program the switch to control a number of different devices from lighting to locks, thermostats, garage door openers and more.

CentraLite sees this switch as a solution to a classic app-enabled control conundrum -- while you may use your phone to turn a light on, you could end up turning it off via the physical switch. With your switch now set to the off position, you'd have to physically flip the switch back to the on position to have any control from the app. The Smart LED Switch ensures that the switch is always on so you can always control your device remotely -- at least, that's the idea.

In addition to the Smart LED Switch, CentraLite is also introducing a Smart Garage System (tentatively priced at $129), and a few "Micro" sensors (door, motion and button). The Smart Garage System lets you open and close the door from the app and turn on any connected garage door lights. It's designed to send you a notification when the door opens and closes and even how much it has opened.

This clever system can also supposedly detect the difference between the garage door being opened via the motor or manually, which suggests a burglary. And, its ZigBee protocol can connect with other home automation products.

Both the Smart LED Switch and the Smart Garage System are slated to hit stores soon. For now, check out the rest of our CES 2015 coverage.
