Welcome to Home Deals, where we pick out the best deals on things you need for your home, garden and beyond. Like our cousin, the Cheapskate, we'll give you a regular selection of smoking-hot deals, but we'll cover things like lawn mowers, kitchen gadgets, smart home hubs and anything else your home or garden requires.

Save big on big mixers

A big-ass stand mixer is a kitchen essential, but there's no need to spend a fortune to get serious about mixing. Amazon is offering the KitchenAid KSM150PSER 5-quart stand mixer for $279.99 (original MSRP $530). That's $20 less than a very similar model, the KSM153PS, that JCPenny has on sale for $299.99. JCPenny, however, has free shipping on anything over $99 at the moment, so that might tip the balance if you aren't an Amazon Prime member.

When you want to start adding features to either of these powerful mixers, check out the three-attachment pack that Sur La Table has for $129.95, which includes a grinder, shredder and vegetable strainer. And use the coupon code SHIPFREE for free shipping on that last one.

Warm the wallet with cheap sous-vide

The Anova Culinary WiFi sous vide cooker, now available for $169.

Sous vide is a relatively new form of cooking that uses warm water instead of flames or hot air. It can do some fun stuff, like make awesome scrambled eggs or a perfect rib-eye steak. It doesn't have to be expensive, either: Amazon has the Anova Culinary sous vide precision cooker on sale, with the 800W Bluetooth model for $129 and the slightly newer (and 900W) Wi-Fi model for $169.

We tested the WiFi model recently, and found that it "makes it easy to sous vide from afar, thanks to a response app that the company keeps improving. This is a good product to add to your kitchen drawer." I'd recommend the cheaper Bluetooth model, as the bigger heater of the Wi-Fi model doesn't make that much difference in use. And with $30 in savings, it leaves more money to buy more kitchen gadgets.

You can get a lot for $30, such as this nifty little Hamilton Bleach hand blender for $19 at Walmart, or (if you hurry: this is a limited time Gold Box deal) a high-end T-fal electric kettle from Amazon for $19.99. Or you could get a Skyroku digital food scale that can measure as much as 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) for $12.79 from Amazon.

Refurb of the week: Save $30 on an Amazon Echo

Cooking is much more fun if you can listen to some tunes while slicing, and the Amazon Echo lets you choose music from many sources by voice. The Echo usually costs $179.99, but you can pick up a refurbished one for $149.99, a savings of $30. Because you can control it with your voice, it's perfect for using while cooking, as you can skip tracks or change genres with just a few words.
