Robot vacuums are the perfect 21st-century gadget -- I love not having to vacuum the floor by hand, or at least only needing to vacuum once in a great while. In contrast, I tested a robot mop a while back but I hated it. Who has room for two competing floor bots? Eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that just the other day I wrote about a deal on a trio of Roborock vacuums (they're still running, incidentally), but the S6 MaxV wasn't among them, and I really like this model enough to tell you about this deal separately.
I had the Roborock S6 MaxV in my own home for a while, and I'd call it the best robot vacuum I've ever used. The robot itself is less likely to get hung up, trapped, stuck or cornered than most other robots I've tried, in large part because its cameras identify common obstacles and proactively avoid them. For example, a competing robot I was testing around the same time managed to get wedged under the fridge door on a routine basis and was seemingly obsessed with cleaning a particular floor lamp to the extent that it got stuck on the base over and over again. The S6 MaxV, though? Almost supernaturally good at avoiding those kinds of traps.
In addition, the S6 MaxV lets you mark up the map of your home in the mobile app. I divided my place into individual rooms, letting me summon the robot to a specific spot for cleanup. It also allows no-go zones, so I set a berth around certain obstacles, like a plush bath mat that has proven to be too much for any robot to traverse. And you can set up no-mop zones to keep rugs and carpets dry.
