Zune HD - New model this year?

Sep 1, 2010 1:35AM PDT

I'm right on the verge of buying my first MP3 player. Have been looking at the Touch and Zune. I really prefer the Zune what with all the issues with the Touch, and Apple in general, and the fact that the Zune seems to have better performance for what it's primarily designed to do - play music. I assume we will be hearing about the latest Touch today (1 Sep), but what about the Zune HD? Any new models coming? Thanks.

What issues with the Touch?

Merely curious...

Microsoft--when it comes to the Zune franchise--has generally been slower about "new" releases. But with Windows Phone/Mobile 7 on the horizon, I'd suspect that there might be a new (or at least updated) HD paralleling the releases on the mobile phone front.

I like my Zune HD a lot and nowadays use it almost exclusively, but in general I don't think many people have a feel as to how well the HD has sold, and more importantly if MSFT thinks that they've gotten a good financial return to date for their current Zune device. I do see that those who have purchased the HD seem to love it to death. For me I'm not quite so fanatical about the device, but if Microsoft made some tweaks to the UI to flesh out functions that are currently no shows I might be convinced to become a fanboy as well.

Touch vs Zune

Thanks for your response, and insight as a happy Zune owner. I see a lot to like about the Touch, but mostly it's on the surface as I've heard that the Zune is superior in performance for playing music and videos (and the CNET reviews mention the same thing).

My main problem with the Touch is that it uses iTunes. Of course, it has to use something, as does the Zune does with it's software. I never really liked iTunes though and was glad when Amazon started offering MP3 much more easily.

Another thing, I borrowed a friend's Touch and played around with the apps and upon doing so noticed that many of the apps were useless away from a Wi-Fi connection. When I played with it at Best Buy, I was intregued by the map and PDA-like functions, but the map doesn't work away from a connection, and the PDA functions (calendar, whatnot) needed constant updates through a connection.

I've heard that you can update the Zune via Wi-Fi without making a hardware connection, is this true? Anyway, I've rambled on. I like some of the games and apps (I hope Netflix makes an app for the Zune, but I admit that I was pulled towards the Touch when I heard they had an app now - (yes, I know you need a Wi-Fi connection). Thanks again.

MP3 Player

You need to take a look at Cowon S9 or Cowon J3 mp3 player, if you're serious and how your music sound and how good your video looks.

I own Cowon S9 and sold my ipod touch. This thing just sounds too good.
