This vulnerability is caused by an unchecked buffer in Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) processing which could lead to a buffer overflow. In order to exploit the vulnerability without user assistance, the target system must be operating as an SMTP server.

The above is what they "patched" in version 4.5.538.001

Yep, that was covered in the link yesterday, so why this thread that caused me and maybe others confusion...like maybe we missed something? (NT)

John,

I somehow missed the prior notice, so when I saw Glenn's, I checked for update via the program interface and am now downloading it. Happy

The way I found this update was from an alert by ZoneAlarm when I booted this morning. You may like to consider "Automatic Update" in the Preferences Settings of Z/A. It gives an option to be reminded later if inconvenient to d/l at the time. I may be plowing old ground here... seems I vaguely remember a discission about manual vs automatic on this board in the past.

This is only for info if you are interested.

P.S. I would like to learn how Internet Explorer 6.0 is working for you and if you are satisfied. Mine has always performed well.

Glenn,

I might turn on the auto notification option. I had just checked a day or so ago and there was no update, so it was good to see your notice since I'd not seen the one on the 18th.

I don't use IE very much, so about the only thing I can report to date that I don't like with this upgrade is the fact that all of my "Favorites" icons in my SlimBrowser have been changed to the IE icon whereas before this upgrade, some were the icon of the site in question.

Just a minor gripe. Happy

Glenn, again...

I just checked and the "notify automatically" was already checked when I thought I had it on manual. I thought there was a big go around not long ago about this very feature, that some were upset that this feature was on automatically.

Or was it that some just could not switch it off? I never had that problem back then, but it seems with this update, mine was switched on me.
