Zonealarm Problem

Sep 17, 2007 12:35AM PDT

So I built my PC and after a few minor issues, everything is working okay. I got Windows XP Pro SP2 set up fine, along with my internet. I set up my antivirus (AVG) and then tried to install Zonealarm. I tried to use an old install file, and it didn't work, showing an error while trying to download from the Zonealarm server. So I went to download.com and got the newest file, with the same results. I also went directly the the Zonealarm site and downloaded the file from there, with the same results.

I am using the windows firewall, and have disabled it while installing ZA. I've also tried shutting down AVG. Nothing seems to help. I have put Zonealarm on 2 or 3 computers in the house. I should try reinstalling it on them to make sure it's not this computer. But I was wondering if anyone else has seen this before? I like Zonealarm, but if it won't install, I can download somebody else's product.

Thanks in advance.

"results"?

I read your post twice but came away with no clues other than it didn't work. More clues are needed as well as any error messages.

I don't know what else to say I guess. I was mainly curious to see if anyone else has tried to install it in the passed few weeks. I can't remember that exact message and I'm at work right now . . . But I can check when I get home tonight. I know it had something to do with failing to connect to the server, and listing a long hyperlink, containing the zonealarm url in it.

My internet works fine, and other software apps work fine. I have Adaware installed and it finds nothing on the PC.

I'll try to be more specific. I download the install file from the server. I open it up and click Begin or whatever it says. It asks me if I want Vista or XP version, I choose XP and hit next. It then asks whether I want to Download or Download and Install. I choose (I've tried both, unsuccessfully) and click Next. Right away, it comes up with error, I click Ok (the only option) and it aborts. It would appear to me that it can't connect to the server to download the files to continue installing. But my internet connection is fine, I've tried disabling the Windows Firewall and my antivirus, in case that was blocking the outgoing connection.

I've tried searching google for this, but can't find much. I find a few issues with it, and on download.com feedback, some people talk about this new version being Vista only, but the 3 screens I see before it locks up, it asks me whether I want Vista or XP/200/ME.

I've installed ZA dozens of times in my life. I guess I should take this as a sign that ZA isn't the program for this computer. There are other 'fish in the sea' so to speak.

Thanks for everyone's time.

There's a clue. You seem to have fetched a "Web installer" version.

YES!! THEY CHANGED IT!!

I can't find the full installer. Try asking in our Security Forum.

Thanks for your help Bob,

I didn't think they'd always had the web fetcher file, but I couldn't really find anything else. I didn't think much of it, until it wouldn't install. I will try to search around a bit more, and try the security forum as well.

Thanks for being patient,
