Zone Labs

Mar 2, 2004 8:45AM PST

After I shut down from my internet provider, I have noticed that "Realtec RTL8139 family PCI Fast Ether NIC Packet Scheduler - miniport (Adapter subnet)" shows up in Zone Alarms and is constantly there. This is not the name of my internet provider. I had made an attempt to remove this and was notified that by doing so I could/would damage some programs. Would this miniport be part of Realplayer which I tried once and then deleted.

As well, I have noticed that zone labs is "whispering/listening" to different TCP ports. Any idea what this would mean? I was of the understanding that once I shut down the internet all activities stopped.

Could someone please advise. Thanks ahead of time and hope to hear back.

HI Colleen,

it seems to me Realtec RTL8139 family PCI Fast Ether NIC Packet Scheduler - miniport (Adapter subnet)is the name of your Ethernet card.

I googled it and found ONLY 1 entry:

I'm currently on a Windows XP computer which has both the Realtek network card and a dial up modem. If you open Zone Alarm, then click on the "Firewall" tab on the left side of the screen, then click on the "Zones" tab, I ALSO have the Realtek RTL 8139 network adapter listed. It's an "Adapter subnet" and must be left there so the computer can connect through the firewall to the internet/network. If you want to add it to the "Trusted Zones" you can add a particular IP address, etc. It's not a part of "RealPlayer" as all of the Programs that are allowed or disallowed can be found under the "Program Control" tab.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both Grif and Marianne - I was quite worried when it was constantly there. You've taken my worry away. Again thanks.
