Zone Alarm Pro is Blocking Window's Update Scan - Help Please

Nov 22, 2003 5:27PM PST

I downloaded a trial of Zone Alarm Pro (version 4.5) which I installed on my Windows XP system. Seems to work fine, except when I go to the Windows Update site, it won't allow the scan for updates to take place. If I disable the firewall, the scan works just fine, but that's not exactly what I had in mind for firewall protection. Wink

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

Anything in your firewall logs to indicate what is being blocked?

I have the same problem. My problem is caused by the incompatiblity of this new version of ZAP and Earthlink Accelerator. If I turn off either one (ZAP or acclerator) everything is fine. There is no compatiblity problem with the "free" version of ZA. I have tried all the suggestion form the ZA forums and Earthlink is not helpful at all.

Thanks Keith and Spotteddog!

I too have tried the suggestions at ZA to no avail. However, my ISP is also EarthLink and I'm using the EarthLink Accelerator (just like Spotteddog).

Thinking (after seeing Spotteddog's post) that incompatibility might indeed be rearing its ugly head, but that a slightly different version of ZA might possibly work, and with nothing at risk, I decided to download CA's eTrust EZ Armor, (the freebie for Microsoft users) which includes the ZA firewall. It works! No problem at all.

Thanks again to you both.

I think I'm ready to do the same thing and download the eTrust EZ Armor package. Thanks for the suggestion.
